“Zoo to You” at Valir PACE – October 14, 2016
written by Chuti White, PACE Activities Coordinator
Valir PACE hosted a “Zoo to You” day for participants, staff and guests to enjoy a hands-on, animal learning experience. “Zoo to You” is a traveling education program offered by The Tiger Safari Zoo designed to educate the public about the animal kingdom that we all share, giving kids and adults alike the opportunity to interact with live animals such as lemurs, otters, cubs, tropical birds, reptiles, and more!
Bringing the Zoo to Pace was very exciting to our Pace participants. When I became the Activities Director I remember asking the participants what would be something cool for them to do and they all
mentioned going to the Zoo, I knew that the participants probably couldn’t stand the heat, and the long walks around the zoo so taking the participants to the zoo wouldn’t be a good ideal, the safety of our participants is extremely important to us. I spoke with the Pace team about bringing the zoo to Pace and we reached out to Tiger Safari and had it booked so that the participants could experience the zoo being brought to them. The smiles on their face was priceless, seeing all the animals and being able to actually touch them was very exciting to them. You don’t get that one-one experience with certain animal at the zoo like our participants did with Tiger Safari, of course the snakes was
not a favorite, but overall they enjoyed all the animals. Doing this activity for the participants was very important to me because it was something they all wanted, and not all of our participants are able to get out and enjoy things they use to do and many of them stated they miss taking trips to the zoo with grandkids and other family members. Just because you get older doesn’t mean the fun has to stop.
